Thamel boasts of being one of the most frequented tourist hubs in Kathmandu, attracting numerous international visitors every year. Among the establishments in Thamel is Hotel Arts, renowned as a gathering place for art enthusiasts and international artists who have been residing there for an extended period. Currently, a collective of artists from Bangladesh, India, and Nepal has organized an exhibition of their artworks at Hotel Arts, Thamel. The gallery commenced on April 16th and will conclude on April 20th, featuring a total of 50 artists. The exhibited artworks encompass a diverse range, including landscapes, portraits, and cityscapes.

Syed Mustafa, hailing from India, shares his experience of the workshop he attended in Nepal. His preferred subject matter often revolves around cityscapes, particularly scenes featuring flowing water in the streets or illuminated by light streaming through windows. During this workshop in Nepal, he continued to explore similar themes. Mustafa acknowledges being inspired by the work of New York-based artist Paul Clinton.

Nargis Soma, representing Bangladesh, has been actively engaging with younger generations of artists. Her art camps often convey a singular message: encouraging people to pursue their work with the same dedication as doctors and artists, thus enabling them to make a livelihood. Additionally, she collaborates with individuals with disabilities. Soma’s paintings predominantly depict the lives of Bangladeshi women, often incorporating oriental themes. She receives significant support from Member of Parliament AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.

N.S. Kumbar, an artist from India, not only runs the N.S. Kumbar Art Academy in Bangalore but also participates in the exhibition. As a co-organizer of the event, he has involved some of his art students in the exhibition. Kumbar’s artworks mainly focus on cultural heritages and feature semi-realistic elements. He is delighted with the workshop, as it provides a platform for senior and junior artists to appreciate each other’s artworks. Among the participants from the academy are Aayansh Rupani, Arjun Konchady, Khushi Tatini Roy, Medha S. Iyengar, Hamsa Priya, Debamalya Paul, Ananya S Nayak, Shreya S Shet, T. Geetha Prakash, Ashish N, Vishnu Jayanth, Arathi Achuta, Anupama S Bhat, Sowmya R, and Shilpa Shree.

The Shorong Art Group, in collaboration with the N.S. Kumbar Art Academy and Art Mantram, has jointly organized the art event. Throughout the workshop, they utilized HD Artist Acrylic Colors from Camel.

Azizul Quadir, representing Bangladesh, focuses his work on the theme of natural life and the struggles faced by both men and women. An enthusiastic traveler, he is showcasing artworks related to nature and women in this exhibition.

Dr. Emran Bin Yunus has been honing his photography skills since grade seven. While renowned as a nephrologist in Bangladesh, he also possesses a keen interest in capturing mesmerizing photographs of nature and landscapes during his travels. He remarks, “As an artist in the global village of the art world, I believe that the national anthem of a country unites its people, and my photographs serve as representations of the art world wherever I go.”

Safique Ahmed, a photographer from Bangladesh, has displayed phenomenal photographs in the exhibition. Among them is a captivating depiction of a natural landscape.

Similarly, Chiranjivee Bhatta, the owner of the hotel and a participating artist in the art show, believes that such exhibitions are essential for the development of the art scene in Nepal. He expressed, “When international artists visit naturally beautiful Nepal and capture their views through painting, they create lasting memories and contribute to attracting more artists to Nepal.”

Ratna Kaji Shakya, proprietor of Light and Shade Gallery in Thamel, was among the participants in the exhibition. Renowned for his abstract style, his paintings often reveal the authentic essence of Nepal. Shakya believes that abstract art is the most effective means of expressing emotions.

Sushma Rajbhandari, a participating artist from Nepal, crafted an artwork during the workshop. Her exhibition piece portrays imagery related to Ganesh, a Hindu deity.

Rehman Patel, hailing from India, is among the participating artists in the art event. Additionally, he is an art teacher who has showcased his artworks in the exhibition.

The Camel Colors sponsored the colors for the event. The art group led by Nargis Soma is known as the Shrong Art Group Bangladesh. The event was inaugurated by Ganesh Parajuli, the Member of Parliament of Bagmati Province.

Other participating artists from Nepal included Anjan Adhikari, Bishal Manandhar, Manara Prajapati, Junu Maya Tamang, and Gaurab Dangol.
