An art exhibition and award ceremony has been held again in Kathmandu, celebrating creativity, dedication, and artistic growth through it. It has been inspiring artists of different ages and backgrounds since its beginning. An art studio committed to nurturing artistic talent has created a platform where emerging and experienced artist showcase their works and find motivation to continue their artistic journey. Shree Bidhya Dhis Rajbhandari Award ceremony and exhibition is being held from May 29th to June 4th at Sashi’s Art Studio.
This year’s exhibition brought together a diverse group of participants, including school students, adults, bachelor-level art students, and freelance artists. The event highlighted a wide range of artworks reflecting personal experiences, cultural heritage, contemporary society, and creative imagination. Through this exhibition, Sashi’s Art Studio once again demonstrated its role as an important center for artistic development and community engagement.
The studio first launched its exhibition and award program in 2024. The inaugural award named “Shree Bidhya Dhis Rajbhandari Award” was presented to Sumitra Baral, whose dedication and artistic talent earned her recognition. At the time, the award served not only as an acknowledgment of her work but also as a source of encouragement. Today, Sumitra is studying Fine Arts in the third year of her bachelor’s degree and has produced numerous ceramic artworks. According to her, receiving the award provided valuable motivation and strengthened her confidence in pursuing art as a serious academic and professional path.
“The award encouraged me to believe in myself and my abilities,” she shared. “It helped me realize that I could create meaningful artworks and continue growing as an artist.”
Inspired by the recognition she received, Sumitra continued to develop her artistic practice, leading to an exhibition of her creations in 2025. Her success story has become a source of inspiration for many young artists associated with the studio.
The second annual award, presented in 2025, was awarded to Kabir Kayastha. Following his recognition, Kabir embarked on a series of ambitious artistic projects that explored Nepal’s rich cultural heritage and the changing realities of modern society this year at the 2026 art exhibition. His works featured themes from Newar culture, traditional stories, and the experiences of younger generations seeking opportunities abroad.
This year, Kabir’s exhibition, “Ekadesh ma” has been presented with a collection of artworks developed after receiving the award. He explained that the recognition gave him confidence and a sense of belonging within the artistic community.
“After receiving the award, I felt that I truly had a place in the art field,” Kabir said. “It motivated me to work harder, think bigger, and continue creating meaningful artworks.”
The 2026 exhibition also showcased the creativity of many aspiring artists who have been learning and practicing art at Sashi’s Art Studio. Participating artists included Sarwani Shrestha, Priyanshi Ghale, Srinidhi Rana Magar, Bidisha Silpakar, Sworaj Khadgi, Saijal Thapa, Saanvi Rawal, Ashba Shrestha, Bidushi Aryal, Sinisha Khadgi, Rushil Maharjan, Luniva Shrestha, Juliana Rai, Bivaan Singh, and Prajana Pokhrel. Their works represented a variety of artistic styles and perspectives, demonstrating the studio’s commitment to fostering creativity among artists of all ages.
A special highlight of the event was the announcement of this year’s award recipient, Nhuja Shrestha. Selected for outstanding artistic achievement and creative potential, Nhuja expressed great happiness and gratitude upon receiving the honor.
“This award means a lot to me,” Nhuja said. “I feel encouraged and motivated to continue creating art in the future. Being recognized in this way gives me confidence and inspires me to work even harder.”
As part of the studio’s tradition, Nhuja’s individual exhibition will be held in 2027, allowing the public to witness the artistic growth that often follows such recognition.
The importance of the award program extends beyond individual achievements. Many artists believe that even a modest award can have a significant impact on their artistic journey. The recognition helps artists feel valued, motivates them to continue creating, and encourages them to share their work with a wider audience.
Dr. Seema Sharma Shah as a chief guest for the inauguration ceremony. An associate professor and former head of the central department of fine arts, Tribhuvan University Kathmandu. She has emphasized the broader significance of the initiative. According to her, artists who receive such awards often develop a stronger sense of responsibility toward their creative practice and the future of Nepali art.
“These awards support artists not only emotionally but also practically,” she explained. “The financial assistance can help artists purchase necessary materials and supplies In today’s economy, such support is especially meaningful for freelance artists and young creators. Receiving these awards has also placed a sense of responsibility towards the art they create.”
The supportive learning environment at Sashi’s Art Studio has also played a key role in shaping many artists. Bidushi Aryal, a current student of the studio, reflected on the encouragement she received from her teachers.
“I feel grateful for the guidance and support provided by my teachers,” she said. “Their encouragement helped me develop confidence in my artwork and continue exploring my creativity.”
As the exhibition will be concluded, visitors will be left with a strong impression of the talent and passion displayed by the participating artists. More importantly, the event highlights the positive impact that recognition, mentorship, and community support can have on artistic development.
