There are only a handful of art exhibitions that leave a lasting impression, and one such captivating showcase is currently unfolding at Gallery MCube, This unique exhibition blends visual art with live performance, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
At the heart of the show is the dynamic collaboration between acclaimed artist Manish Lal Shrestha and performance artist Constanza Bithoff. Together, they push artistic boundaries, weaving movement, expression, and visual storytelling into a singular, thought-provoking presentation.
The exhibition officially opened on February 28th and has since been drawing art enthusiasts eager to witness the fusion of art, performance, and conceptual artistry. Constanza, an Argentinian artist who has been living in Nepal for over four years, is steadily gaining recognition in the Nepali art scene through her captivating performances. Known for her expressive use of dance as a medium of storytelling, she brings a unique energy to every space she inhabits.
For this particular performance, she was joined by a musician and performer from Chile, Moa Edmunds Guevara, whose slow, atmospheric guitar melodies set the tone for an immersive experience. As Moa strummed, Constanza accompanied him by playing a drum and singing in her native dialect, creating an evocative fusion of sound and movement.
The performance began on the first floor of the gallery, where Manish Lal Shrestha’s artwork—stitched-together fragments of worn-out clothes—hung on the walls, adding layers of texture and meaning to the space. After an intimate moment of song and rhythm, the performers transitioned to the ground floor, where the setting had been transformed—red plastic sheets draped across the walls, intensifying the theatrical atmosphere.
Here, the performance took on a mesmerizing turn. As the guitar music filled the space, Constanza’s dance became more fluid yet deliberate, her movements resembling those of a marionette controlled by invisible threads. The audience, seated cross-legged on the floor, watched in silent intrigue as she embodied a character seemingly suspended between control and surrender, making the performance all the more compelling.
After a while, another performer, Manish Lal Shrestha, enters the scene, also enveloped by threads. As he struggles to untangle the knots around him, his movements convey the difficulty of breaking free from entanglement, symbolizing deeper themes of constraint and perseverance.
One of the visitors, Yadav Dhungel, shared his thoughts on the performance, saying, “I was truly amazed by what I just witnessed. It made me reflect on how, no matter where we come from, we all experience the same emotions.”
Constanza’s solo performances will continue on the 4th, 6th, and 14th of March at 5 PM, while the exhibition remains open until the 16th of March.
